DISCLAIMER!
This project was originally created for a University Project. The use of copyrighted materials such as the Lemon ad are unsed under fair edcational use. Ryanism Industries does not, nor claims to own Volkswagen. This was not a comissioned work either.
— Concept —
We wanted to take the Iconic Volkswagen ad from the 1960 ad campaign by the renowned ad agency, Doyle Dane Bernbach, and generate our own unique collector series poster out of it.
— Planning —
After exploring the vast archive of Volkswagen ads, we come across the Lemon ad.
Preserving the original intention behind the ad, we knew exactly what we wanted to do.
Starting with building up our own assests we wanted to rebuild the classic ad into a Blueprint. The blue print would emphasize the original thoughts by showing the behind the scenes. The ad text was reused throughout the poster to keep the exact original wording.
— Execution —
Our original attempt was finished in 2022-10-06 titled “Lemon.”
The final piece was a unique blueprint referencing many of the ad’s pieces while reusing other parts to build continuity. This project originally started back in 2022, although there was a lot left desired.
— Revisons —
With a new skill set and new motivations, we here at Ryanism Industries have taken a strong look at what went wrong with the original design. We knew that if we could restructure these failures, our design would work excellently. Our analysis found three major failure points.

How do we fix this?
Ryanism Industries must improvise and find new, unique ways to build our blueprint. We redesigned our assets, creating bold outlines of the Volkswagen Beetle from multiple angles. We played around with the color by referencing real blueprints and correctly selecting a more accurate base color.
— Final —
With a better understanding of our concept, we were able to improve the color, develop better assets, and place them in a better layout. We are very excited to display our final piece of “Lemon“. We designed to alternative versions to allow for a display style of 11x17 portrait or 17x11 landscape.
