This is my project from my Intro to Design class at Tennessee Technological Institute. We were tasked to take parts from a real life ad to make a poster. We had to use assests from the ad, make a sketch addition of the ad, as well as make a geometric addiction from the ad.
I chose to use the Lemon. ad from Volkswagen in 1960. The ad breaks down the idea of how Volkswagen Beetle was held to very high quality standards to the point that if it wasn’t perfect, it would be left behind unable to make it to a new owner. These cars deemed not up to qulaity were known as ‘Lemons” , a common term that meant a car was prone to failure and overall low quality, leading to their final phrase being, “We Pluck the Lemons, You Get the Plums”.
Taking the idea of the Lemon ad and the prompt given for class, I developed some sketches to use in my project. The idea for a blueprint was a kind of last minute idea and really came together thanks to all the assets I had made.
I decided asset wise to use my sketch of the Volkswagen Beetle and fact I decided to write out the entirely of the Lemon ad in my sketch book.
These assets when combines together gave me the idea of making it a blueprint. Since the ad was about the design quality of the Volkswagen Beetle. So connecting various qualities and levels of parts of the Lemon ad could represent the Volkswagen.
This here is the final from my collection of ideas!
Although the project doesn’t age the best for the time it was what I would consider a success. I combined all of my assets into a blueprint styled design. I took the title, tagline, and the Beetle from the ad to make a sort of Watermark/Logo for the blueprint. I layered the text from the ad in each style around the piece and for the geometric style made it marked out and in the center to appear as a classified piece of the blueprint. The other Beetles were layed around the piece to look like different levels and sketches.
If I were to redo this project I would definetly spend more time on the planning stage. I wish I would have properly developed the idea of it to a full and proper extent.
One day, I will return to it and remake this! Keep an eye out on this page! One day it may get a new entry!
